An international Heimat movie about sex, drugs, rock ‘ n roll and no retirement funds

Photographer Simon Danby about the poster

plakat_foto_danby“It was the Newcastle stage of the UK “Uncle Meat” tour of 1969. I’d been photographing the sound checks in the afternoon, and returned in the evening with a friend.

In the break in the under-stage rooms, Frank Zappa sat down to write music- under the shadow of the slightly intimidating Herb Cohen. The rest of the Mothers messed about in the next room, indulging themselves in whatever.

The Jimmy Carl-Black picture – we all enjoyed a beer and a joint in the half-time break- hence the poor focus! He just seemed like a nice bloke- what we call “A Real Un”.
